Theology

“No Christian can avoid theology. Every Christian has a theology. The
issue, then, is not, do we want to have a theology? That’s a given. The real
issue is, do we have a sound theology? Do we embrace true or false
doctrine?” —R.C. Sproul

I Am Mystery

We just finished a series called A Church for the City. The series came directly from the content of our 6 week Ownership Seminar Series (or membership class). We ended the series with the invitation to "Own Mystery" as your church. What's the Difference Between Ownership and Membership?
The term "member" carries little weight or importance in our culture today. Most memberships are painless to obtain and even easier to discard. We want people to become owners of Mystery. Members are usually just consumers, owners however are investors that make things happen.
If you are a follower of Christ, then you are a co-owner of His church. We invite you to help make Mystery happen. Owning Mystery is a declaration that you are moving from being a consumer to being an investor--that you are joining not simply just the community of Christ, but the whole cause of Christ. It is not what you can receive, but what you can give.
Jesus does not need us for anything, he invites us into participation. Mystery does however need your help to accomplish God’s calling on our church in this city. We are asking you to own the church rather than simply watching and consuming. We are calling people to ownership--to live sacrificially so people can meet Jesus.
If you have completed the Ownership Series and would like to take part in becoming an Owner of Mystery click the image above to download our Ownership Covenant, Pledge & Questionnaire and then email us at ownership@mysterychurch.com to arrange for an interview with the pastor.
These are exciting times to be involved and committed to Mystery. We hope you will consider enjoying the ride with us as active participants.

A Christian without a Church?

“It is impossible, according the bible, to answer what is a Christian w/o talking about the church.”

“If you have no interest in committing yourself to an actual group of gospel believing, bible teaching Christians you might question whether you belong to the body of Christ as all.”

– Mark Dever

The Perfect Church

“If I had never joined a church till I had found one that was perfect, I should never have joined one at all. And the moment I did join it, if I had found one, I should have spoiled it, for it would not have been a perfect church after I had become a member of it. Still, imperfect as it is, it is the dearest place on earth to us.” —Charles Spurgeon

We will be starting prayer nights again on Tues, Feb. 19th at 9pm at the Int'l House of Prayer on Main St. in downtown Joplin. (It's in the old Dioko store, if that helps) Prayer nights will be every week at this time. We are hoping this consistent time and place will make it easier to remember. If you are able to come, we would love to see you. Any and all are welcome to come and join us as we spend time praying for Mystery and the city and praising God for the work he is doing.

Knowing & Teaching Scripture

In light of last week's sermon on the Bible, from our Church for the City membership series, The Resurgence.com has a great post from Pastor Matt Chandler. It's a short message on the importance of knowing and preaching the bible as well as seeing it and treating it as authoritative in all areas of the life for Christ Followers and the church.
Mystery has this same view on the bible and the importance it plays in our preaching, teaching, community and personal lives. Click the Image to watch or find a Direct Link to Video Here.
